Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese contemporary artist who has worked with abstract sculpture and installation for over 7 decades. Kusama primarily works with her signature polka dots in conjunction with bright, mostly primary, colors. This assignment (for Typography IV) challenged us to create branding for a lecture series. We were asked to come up with appropriate deliverables and work with expressive typography to express our chosen speaker’s specific stylings. The expressive typography for this piece focused on two main attributes reminiscent of Yayoi Kusama: her signature red bobbed hair and her use of polka dots throughout her work.
